No such thing as a stupid question
Over the past few years I've interacted with quite a few fitness and self-defense forums, as you probably have, too.

Most I don't bother with any more for a couple of important reasons:

  • A lack of qualified, verifiable information
  • A clannish, almost vindictive attitude demonstrated towards newer forum members

Though the first reason, is bad enough,and warrants a speedy exit from the given online forum; the second reason is avoidable, but often is tolerated, thus weakening the flow of new questions and new ideas.

People often don't continue to open themselves up to a "mental flogging" for asking a simple question. So in order to make it official on this website, there are NO STUPID QUESTIONS!

Everyone is welcome here to discuss training, period! Ask anything you want to about training and no one should attack your here even if they don't agree with you.

Other issues can be discussed on other forums, but not here.

Staying in the learning mode
I was able to sit down with Wayne Fisher, better known as "Scrapper", for about an hour or so today. I always enjoy being around people who actually have something of content  to say.
We shared training insights and training materials, plus some "life stuff".
Scrapper is real, I like that. We'll be doing some training together starting next week, and I know I'll learn alot from him.

Find your weak spots before they find you
When I was much younger and cockier, I hated to lose at anything. I took it as utter humiliation and nothing more. So what is different now?
I have learned to value the process of learning, which at times includes losing at something or maybe just doing poorly in front of other people, especially those you respect.
A few years ago, I met Saulius "Sonny" Puzikas a former Soviet Spetsnaz operator.
Sonny runs the Russian Combat Academy here in Sarasota, FL. I was intrigued with the whole idea of Russian training so I started training with him.
I had never seen anyone with that kind of strength or with body mechanics that good before.
His training totally shattered some very fond ways of thinking about strength and fitness.
He helped me see my weak spots (notice I didn't say "spot").
I haven't seen Sonny in a while, but I haven't forgotten what he taught me about myself.
Many people are familiar with Pavel Tsatsouline, who has excellent training strategies; however, Sonny is right up there, too! Thanks Sonny.

a community of coaches
My father, a career Marine, often told me to surround myself with people who knew more than I did.
Our goal is to develop a community of coaches/trainers who offer their insights and gain from the insights of others.

Sample workouts, training events, etc.
If you are new to CrossFit, you can get a better idea of how we train by visiting our "WODs" page and checking out a sample "Workout of the Day" or WOD.
Fot those visiting from other CrossFit gyms, you'll find WODs you'll recognize as well as some new ones.
We also have some introductory training events coming up that will be listed on our "calendar".
Note: If you've been out of training for a while or if you ahve never trained hard, you should get a physical exam before starting. When you do begin, work at a pace you can stay with consistently.
